Electric Current Formula

An electric current is nothing but the flow of continuous electrons in an electric circuit. The electrons move when there is a potential difference applied across the wire or terminal. This current is associated with the voltage and resistance of a circuit. It is represented by I and the SI unit is Amperes.

Formula

The electric current formula can b e given as,

Where,

  • V is the voltage

  • R is the resistance

  • I is the current

Solved Examples

Example 1: Find out the current flowing in the circuit, which is based on the following data : voltage and resistance are 15V and 3Ω respectively.

Solution: Given data's,

V = 15V   , R = 3Ω

The formula for current is,

I = V/R

= 15/3

= 5A

Example 2: Value of voltage and resistance are given as 10V and 4Ω for a circuit. Find now, current flowing through this circuit?

Solution

Given

V = 10V

R = 4Ω

The expression of the current is given by Ohm's law as,

   I=V/R

    =10/4

    =2.5A

Conclusion

Electric current is one of those concepts that are important to the field of electricity and electronics, representing the flow of electric charge through a conductor. Understanding current is very much necessary for the understanding of how devices function electrical and how energy is transmitted through different applications.
