A number pattern is a list of numbers. This pattern generally follows a common relation between the list of the numbers.
There are two types of number patterns.
Each concept is explained to class 2 maths students using illustrations, examples, and mind maps. Students can assess their learning by solving the two printable worksheets given at the pages’ end.
Download the number pattern worksheet for class 2 and check the solutions for the concept of the number pattern provided in PDF format.
In the previous chapter, we have already studied patterns in shapes. Not only shapes but patterns are also seen involving numbers and alphabets.
A number pattern is a list of numbers. This pattern generally follows a common relation between the list of numbers.
There are two types of number patterns.
If the numbers in the pattern are increasing by a particular order, then it is said to be in increasing number pattern.
Example:
Let us discuss with an example. In the below pattern, we have to guess the next number.
Observing the pattern carefully one can see that, the difference between two adjacent numbers is 2 and the numbers are increasing by 2.
So, the next number will be 10 + 2 = 12.
Hence the complete pattern is
If the numbers in the pattern are are decreasing by a particular order, then it is said to be in decreasing number pattern.
Example:
Let us discuss with an example. In the below pattern, we have to guess the next number.
Observing the pattern carefully one can see that, the difference between two adjacent numbers is 2 and the numbers are decreasing by 2.
So, the next number will be 33 – 2 = 31.
Hence the complete pattern is
A letter pattern is a list of letters or English alphabets. This pattern generally follows a common relationship between all the letters.
Here it is explained with an example.
Example:
Find the next letter of the given pattern.
A, D, G, J, M, P, ?
Answer:
A, D, G, J, M, P
In the above sequence, the letters are written after skipping two of the letters between them.
So, the next letter will be
Hence the complete pattern is
A, D, G, J, M, P, S.
Many more patterns can be seen with the help of the 26 alphabets.
