What are Time Order Words?

• Time order words tell us the order in which events happen. They allow us to understand the sequence of events in chronological order, from the first item to the last item.
• This is helpful when you’re telling a story or something that happened - whether you’re writing it down or just telling it to a friend.

A) Tomorrow

The meaning of tomorrow is on or for the day after today. It is one of the most commonly used time order words in the English language.

Examples:

1. I will meet him in the park tomorrow.
2. The meeting got postponed tomorrow.

B) Soon

‘Soon’ means ‘a short time after now’ and ‘a short time after a point it has been said.

Examples:

1. See you soon in Mumbai.
2. I will have my dinner soon.

C) First

The word ‘first’ means coming before all others in time or order, or earliest.

Examples:

1. He came first in the meeting.
2. First, I will go to the market.

Common Mistake

When any time order word is placed at the start of a sentence, they’re followed by a comma. Never miss out on putting a comma after the word.
