The past tense shows an action or condition, or event that has happened in the past.
Use the present tense for the verb by adding the suffix -ed to form the verb past tense.
There are four types of past tense depending on whether the action has been completed or is in progress. The four types of past tenses are as follows:

1. Using past continuous tense to describe past habits. Use the simple past tense instead of the past continuous tense.
Example:
I walked to school daily when I was young.
I was walking to school daily.
2. Using the past continuous tense to highlight completed events in the past at a specific time.
Example:
I called his school at 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon.
I was calling his school at 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon.
3. Using present or the past perfect tense to describe a definite time in the past.
Example:
I woke up at five o’clock this morning.
I have woken up at five o’clock today morning.
