What is the Right LKG admission age?
The idea of LKG originated with working mothers and nuclear families. In the past, moms had time if they weren’t working, and grandparents loved to spend time with young children. The situation is different right now. Because of the intense competition in today’s society, parents want their kids to learn something new every day so that they are ready for any obstacles that may arise.
Area of Concern
Here, there are a few things we need to work out. Are we considering school requirements or our responsibilities as parents?
The minimum age for LKG is 3.5 years old. However, LKG is best when kids are prepared for the next level. When kids are at their toddler age, we need to start planning their education. This is necessary so that they can learn fundamental lessons like how to share, make friends, and deal with rejection. So it is very important to send them to play school before LKG admission age. The right age to join them in playschool is 2.5 to 3 years. In general, each state has a separate minimum age requirement. For example, Karnataka requires 3.5 years of age, and Madhya Pradesh requires 4 years of age completion prior to LKG entrance.
Children should be introduced to culture outside of their family. It will be much simpler for them to continue if they develop social skills prior to enrolling in LKG. Kids at lkg age also believe that their surroundings outside of the home are pleasant.
Every Child is Unique
Whereas the norm is 3.5 to 4 year, every child is unique and some children may be ready a little earlier while others take longer time. The parents, in effect have to watch out for developmental signs and discuss this with the preschool teachers to verify that indeed the child is ready for LKG.
Signs Your Child is Ready for LKG
Here are some signs that your child may likely be prepared to start LKG:
He or she can easily understand and follow simple commands like "Pick up the toy" or "Put on your shoes"
He or she has started playing with other children, has friends whom he or she plays with, shares toys, and shares in turn.
Curiosity to Learn: Does your child, like millions of others, ask questions for example, "Why is the sky blue?" or "What does this do?" If so, their natural curiosity may be an indicator that they are ready to learn in a school environment.
Sit and Concentrate for Short Stretches of Time: At the time of LKG admission age, your child would sit and concentrate for short lessons. If your child can sit through a short story or play with a puzzle for a few minutes, he should be good for LKG.
What if My Child Isn't Ready Yet?
That is perfectly all right if your child is not yet ready by age 3.5 or 4. After all, every child grows at his or her own pace, and putting pressure on them by requiring them to go to school before they are actually prepared can be frustrating. Your child can have more time to develop his social, emotional, and communication skills by engaging him in playgroup activities, taking him to the park, and letting him mingle with other children or do learning activities at home. They may then enjoy going to school, making friends, and learning new things, when they are ready for that.
Conclusion
It is quite simple for both the child and parents to carry on after the child becomes adjusted to the surroundings and rules. Kids are often moody, so it takes them longer to adjust to a new environment and it might be challenging to get accepted to LKG age. It might be difficult for them if they immediately enroll in LKG and experience academic difficulties. However, when children enroll in a play school, they make new friends to play with, which they really like. As a result, they begin to adjust to the new environment and feel comfortable. Therefore, it is advantageous to enroll children in playschool first.
