Narendra Modi is a name that resonates in the minds of people across the globe. As the Prime Minister of India, his life history is not essentially about being in politics. From very humble beginnings through the journey of heading the biggest democracy in the world, Narendra Modi's life is one real 'rags-to-riches' case. In this blog, we learn about the life, education, and achievements of Narendra Modi, and how he rose to be among the top influential leaders in the world.
Narendra Modi was born on 17 September 1950 in Vadnagar, a small town of Gujarat, a province in India. The full name of Narendra Modi is Narendra Damodardas Modi, and although not so rich, his family background was good, while young Narendra worked hard from a very early age. His father had a tea stall that he often ran, with Narendra helping his father by selling tea at the local railway station.
Though life was not easy, yet these were the qualities that were never hidden from a curious young boy, Narendra Modi, interested in a lot of different things and always determined to learn. These would further help him in his long journey to the Prime Minister's office.
Narendra Modi got his early schooling in a local school in Vadnagar. In studies, neither was he bright nor dull; as a student, he was average, but he was an able debater and showed great participation in co-curricular activities. His teachers remember him as a bright and enthusiastic student who always wanted to learn more.
After finishing his education, Narendra Modi left home and started wandering around India. This tour led him to many places, including the Himalayas, where he spent much time in meditation and self-introspection. That was, in fact, a critical period of his life, which defined the way he saw the world and his love for his country.
Later on, the education of Narendra Modi went on to the long-awaited completion of his political science degree through distance learning at the University of Delhi that enabled him to know better how politics in the Indian state work-financially augmenting the future that was to come.
Narendra Modi joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a Hindu nationalist organization, at a tender age. Through his counterengagement with the RSS, he built a strong network, was able to gather experiences in the organization field, and displayed leadership skills. His dedication and hard work were noticed by senior leaders, and soon he was given more important responsibilities within the organization.
In the early 1980s, Narendra Modi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, better known as the BJP. His leadership skills and his ability to connect with the people propelled him upwards, and he gained many promotions within the party structure. These promotions within the party later led to his appointment as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001.
Narendra Modi had been in the service as the Chief Minister in Gujarat since 2001 to 2014. He used to concentrate on economic development and infrastructure. The state reaped distinctions like rapid industrial growth and better governance.
The best-known project launched by Narendra Modi was the "Vibrant Gujarat" summit, which invited investors from all over the world to make investments in the state. That project opened up employment opportunities and raised living standards for the larger segment of Gujarat's population.
However, the chief minister term did not go well for Narendra Modi. In 2002, the Gujarat riots occurred, thereby denting his political career since people came to an accusation that his administration was indeed responsible for the chaos. However, Narendra Modi has always soldiered on in a mission to make Gujarat a model state in India
In 2014, he led the historic victory of the BJP in the general elections. At that time, the party had won a majority in the Lok Sabha, and he was appointed as the 14th Prime Minister of the country. His rise to the highest office of the land was seen as a testimony to his hard work and determined efforts and ability to relate with the common man.
As Prime Minister of India, he has initiated many big projects. Among them, the very well-known initiative is the "Make in India" campaign; the big companies are invited to manufacture their products in India. The motive was to boost up the economy for creating jobs and, therefore, making India a manufacturing hub for the world.
The important programs are "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan," under which every nook and corner of India will be cleaned from filth and waste. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also emphasized "Digital India" in his vision, wherein he has emphasized on increasing the Internet connectivity so that all government works can be done through the net.
Narendra Modi envisages the nation as a developed and self-reliant one. To him, "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas" encompasses his value orientation toward equitable development.
His thrust area, however, is going to be the development of rural India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a number of schemes in order to give a better life to farmers with more access to health facilities and to ensure that electricity and clean water reach each village.
He further accentuates education and skill development. His government at the Center brought schemes like "Skill India" and "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" to empower the youth and inculcate gender parity.
Narendra Modi is indeed blessed with a routine of discipline. He gets up quite early in the morning, regularly practices yoga, and does some meditation, apart from the daily routine work. In spite of his tremendously busy schedule, he manages time to read books on history, spirituality, and politics.
Modi's age factor is something largely propagandised in the media, especially for his high levels of energy and being active with different initiatives. At this time, Modi is 73 years old, but this shall not diminish his affinity for serving the nation.

The vision for a self-reliant India, "Atmanirbhar Bharat," is being appreciated by people all over the world, especially in adversities such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite this, Narendra Modi has had his struggles and conflicts, even those widely criticized. Some of the policies he brought about-the most controversial being the demonetization of high-value currency notes in 2016 and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax-threw financial life off balance, critics said.
The dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic also posed a lot of challenges to the administration. Even though the government had initiated several measures to prevent the spread of the virus and also to assist the affected people, it was highly criticized in terms of the medical resources made available and the influence on the economy.
However, Narendra Modi had his head always oriented toward his objectives, and he is striving hard to make India an excellent and power-gained nation.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi works on turning the vision for India-a developed and prosperous country-into the future of the country, he is working on the development ideology with quite a few long-term projects related to improving infrastructure, boosting the economy, and ensuring social welfare.
One of the key areas of focus is renewable energy.
